Academic Laboratory
We are Akademiska sjukhuset – one of Sweden's leading university hospitals. As a county hospital and provider of highly specialized care, we offer healthcare to two million people in Central Sweden. Something is always happening here – a new life is born, a grandmother undergoes surgery, a colleague is hailed as a hero. Here, you will experience both tough trials and fantastic events, within a strong community of colleagues. We welcome your application!
Our Operations
Molecular diagnostics and clinical genetics is an expanding operation at the Rudbeck Laboratory in Uppsala. We are an accredited, highly specialized operation that performs diagnostics of congenital and acquired genetic abnormalities and offers genetic counseling with patient visits. Currently, approximately 100 people work at the clinic with healthcare, research, and development. The operation is accredited according to ISO 15189 and environmentally certified according to ISO 14001. Within the molecular pathology part of the operation, clinical analyses of hematological and solid tumors are performed using modern molecular methods.
We are now looking for a PhD-educated molecular biologist for our operations.
Are we the right fit for you?
Do you want to contribute to future precision diagnostics in a highly specialized clinical operation? Here, you will have a key role in working with molecular diagnostic methods such as massively parallel sequencing (MPS/NGS) and ddPCR and qPCR, as well as interpretation and review of these analyses. In your work, you will collaborate closely with other molecular biologists, biomedical analysts (BMA), pathologists, bioinformaticians, and other staff in a role that is a critical part of the diagnostics.
The position combines laboratory work with analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results from existing analyses, primarily within solid tumor diseases. We also see that you are interested in contributing to supervision and education of, for example, BMAs and ST-doctors. We strive for high quality in our work, and in this role, you will participate in developing and establishing routines for both quality-assured and efficient production. In the long term, there is an opportunity to participate in projects involving the development, validation, and accreditation of existing analyses, or the introduction of new methods for use in clinical routine. Here, you become part of an engaged workplace with high competence, strong collaboration, and a clear focus on quality, innovation, and patient benefit.
Are you the right fit for us?
We are looking for you who have a PhD in molecular biology or a corresponding subject, with practical experience in clinical molecular pathological operations. You have experience with modern sequencing technologies, focusing on MPS/NGS and/or Oxford Nanopore sequencing, as well as ddPCR. Experience in interpreting genetic variants is also an advantage. Knowledge of quality assurance, validation, and work in regulated or accredited operations is also an advantage. You need to be able to express yourself well in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as you will work closely with laboratory staff and doctors in clinical daily life and will be able to formulate clinical answers in Swedish.
As a person, you are analytical, meticulous, and responsible. You thrive working both independently and in close collaboration with others, and have the ability to translate technical competence into solutions that work in clinical routine. We also value that you are structured, development-oriented, and want to contribute to strengthening and further developing the operation with a focus on quality and patient benefit.
Our operation is constantly developing, and we would like you to contribute to improvements that strengthen the quality for both patients and employees. In the recruitment, we make a holistic assessment of competence, experience, and personal suitability, and are looking for you who have the best prerequisites to contribute to both the assignment and the continued development of the operation.
